Windows 98 Plus for Windows 7


1.) Download and unzip the Plus! Theme Pack. Place the Plus folder on the desktop.

2.) In the Plus! Folder, right click the file called THEMES.exe and choose Properties.

3.) Click on the compatibility tab and check “Run this program in compatibility mode”.

4.) Choose Windows 98, and Click Apply, then OK.

5.) Double click the THEMES.exe file to run the program. There are several Windows 98 themes that you can choose.

6.) To use one of my themes, unzip the file, extract all the elements from the folder, and place all of them in the Plus! folder on the desktop. All the elements must be directly in this folder and not in a subfolder.

7.) Click the THEMES.exe, use the drop down menu, choose a theme, and apply. If the icons don't automatically change, refresh the desktop by right clicking anywhere on the desktop and click Refresh.

8.) You can save the theme In Windows 7 in the Personalize window for future use without using the .theme file, by accessing it from the "My Themes" area.

DESKTOP THEMES FOR WINDOWS XP AND VISTA TUTORIAL

PLEASE NOTE THAT THEMES ARE BEST VIEWED IN WINDOWS "CLASSIC" STYLE AND NOT WINDOWS XP OR VISTA STYLE. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT NECESSARY FOR THE THEME TO WORK. IF YOU CHOOSE TO KEEP THE XP OR VISTA STYLE, THE COLOUR SCHEME WILL NOT BE APPLIED. TO CHANGE TO CLASSIC STYLE BEFORE INSTALLING THEMES IN XP OR VISTA:

1. Right click on the desktop and click Properties

2. In the Themes dropdown menu choose Windows Classic, click Apply and OK.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS USING DESKTOP ARCHITECT WITH XP
Desktop Architect is an excellent theme management tool that  works perfectly with XP and Vista. It eliminates error messages during installation that are sometimes encountered with XP. Theme installation and desktop personalization using Desktop Architect is quick and easy.

1. Before installing DESKTOP ARCHITECT, create a new folder in C:\Program Files. Call it Plus! (include the exclamation mark) Open this folder and create another folder. Call it Themes. This is the location where you will store all your themes.

2. Download 
"DESKTOP ARCHITECT" at this link: DESKTOP ARCHITECT  Install DESKTOP ARCHITECT.

3. Unzip the theme folder to: C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes

4. Open DESKTOP ARCHITECT, click the dropdown menu that says "Current Settings" located in the upper left.

5. Click "Other"

6. A new window opens with a dropdown menu at the top that says "Look in". This location should be C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes by default.

7. Find the theme folder in the list, and double click it to open it.

8. Click the Desktop Architect icon, then click "Open" located in the bottom right.

9. Click "Apply", upper left beside the dropdown menu.



INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS USING DESKTOP ARCHITECT WITH VISTA

4. Open DESKTOP ARCHITECT, click the dropdown menu that says "Current Settings" located in the upper left.

5. Click "Other"

6. A new window opens with a dropdown menu at the top that says "Look in". This location should be C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes by default.

7. Find the theme folder in the list, and double click it to open it.

8. Click the Desktop Architect icon, then click "Open" located in the bottom right.

9. Click "Apply", upper left beside the dropdown menu.

10. The first theme you apply through Desktop Architect may not apply the associated icons. Change the icons manually by going to the Personalize area. (To get to the "Personalize" screen, right click on the desktop.) On the far left side, click on 'Change Desktop Icons'. Then browse to C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\ and click on the subdirectory with the name of the theme you just installed. This is where all the various theme elements are located. Select the icons and apply them manually.

11. Click 'Save As'. Browse to C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes\ choose the applicable theme folder, open it and overwrite the existing theme file with the settings you just entered. The next time you apply the theme, the wallpaper, icons, cursors, and sounds will be there.

PLEASE NOTE  that the startup sound and the network icon cannot be changed in Vista.
